The magic of the beach and the greenery of the forest come together in one place, and the result is a natural paradise. Not in vain the Manuel Antonio National Park is the Protected Wild Area that receives the largest number of national and international tourists.
 
In addition to beaches, the Park offers a very humid tropical forest where species of flora and fauna in danger of extinction coexist, a mangrove, marine environments, islands and a lagoon of 14 hectares.
 
In a short trip you can cross several paths that will take you through a primary forest. You will also have stunning views of the sea and you can enjoy the wildlife that is possible to find at any time.
Manuel Antonio National Park (PNMA) is located in Quepos canton, Puntarenas province, between the North Lambert Costa Rica coordinates: 366000 - 372000 N and 446000 - 462000 O, Sheet 3344 II, Quepos, of the National Geographic Institute. According to the Costa Rica Transversal Mercator (CRTM) projection, the PNMA is between the coordinates: 1032000 - 1040000 N and 472000 - 488000 O, that is, 157 kilometers (97 miles) south of San José. The main entrance is located 7 kilometers (4.34 miles) east of Quepos.

​Manuel Antonio National Park was born from the communal pressure that was manifested against the prohibition of its former foreign owners for the enjoyment of the beaches by local people. Foreigners had a strong interest in developing the area as a tourist center. So thanks to pressure from the community, in 1972, the "National Park Beaches Recreation Manuel Antonio" (Parque Recreativo Nacional Playas de Manuel Antonio) was born, through Law No. 5100.

The entry and stay in this National Park is regulated by different regulations. 

Manuel Antonio National Park is open to visitors from Wednesday to Monday from 7:00 a.m. at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday closed.

Visitors must present their identity card when entering the park when they show the entry ticket, which is valid only once.

Foreign or non-residents

  • Adults (over 12 years old) $ 16 + IVA
  • Children (from 2 to 12 years old) $ 5 + IVA
  • Children under 2 do not pay entrance 

National and residents

  • Adults (over 12 years old) 1600 costarican colons.
  • Children (from 6 to 12 years old) 500 costarican colons. 
  • Children under 6 do not pay entrance
  • Adults over 65 years do not pay for entrance ticket if they present their identity card

Attractions
 
•  The Waterfall: made up of a small waterfall, observable only during the rainy season. Refer to the park entrance.
 
•  Mangroves: it consists of a body of fresh and salt water covering about 18 hectares, it is observed along the trails parallel to the beaches Manuel Antonio and South Espadilla. Here there are the following species of mangroves: red, piñuela and gentleman.
 
•  Gemelas Beach: beach divided in two by a rock formation that over the years has come to meet the sea, making possible in their areas to see small fragments of stone that were detached from the bedrock. The waters of streams with ocean currents, winds and the movements of tectonic plates have given life to Gemelas Beach, causing it keeps changing with time.
 
•  Manuel Antonio Beach: famous beach by its scenic beauty, known for being one of the best beaches in Costa Rica, very appetizing for snorkeling, mainly to the sides where you can see lots of marine life and some corals.
 
•  La Trampa: another attraction that can be seen to the right side of Manuel Antonio beach next to Punta Catedral, at low tide you can appreciate a kind of circle formed with archaeological remains, which according to its history this Trap (Trampa) was a tool used by indigenous to capture turtles and fish.
 
•  Espadilla Sur Beach: a wide beach at low tide, although it is in a bay it presents some strong waves in some seasons and it less crowded than Manuel Antonio beach.
 
•  Punta Catedral: This site was formerly an island that due to sediment accumulation joined to the coast by a sandy strip called "Tómbolo". On the trail you will find three sightseeing places, where you can see several islands, some are home to seabirds.
 
•  Punta Serrucho Sightseeing place: it is volcanic type or Chalky (calcium) rock formation, whose name Punta Serrucho is given by its broken and irregular shape due to the movements of the earth's crust as this formation is on a tectonic fault.
 
•  Puerto Escondido Sightseeing place: this Sightseeing place allows to appreciate one of the most beautiful park coastal seascapes. You will also have the opportunity to appreciate at low tide, one of the small sand bridges linking some islands to the mainland coast.
 
•  Flora and fauna: this park has a great flora and fauna richness. There have been registered approximately 352 species of birds, 109 species of mammals, varied marine fauna and 346 species of plants. Among the most outstanding species of wildlife can be observed the titi monkey (emblem species), white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, 2 and 3 fingers sloths, raccoon, coati, birds like the toucan and many other species. 
 
  • ​Manzanillo tree located on the beach is toxic, please do not sit at its shadow, do not touch or eat its fruit.
  • Enjoy nature properly, do not touch plants or wild animals, and not collect shells or snails.
  • We invite you to experience touring the forest through the extensive network of trails and from the sightseeing places located in the highest part of the park (about 525 feet, 160 meters), to appreciate the scenic beauty of the coast and vegetation located in these farthest sections of the beach.
  • To walk the trails in the forest, it is recommended to use proper footwear, it is not recommended wearing sandals and try not to make noise, do not go from permitted areas nor climb on railings or signs. 
  • Take care of your belongings at all times and try not to carry food that attract wildlife. Remember it is forbidden to feed the wild animals, certain products can seriously affect the health of these and generate changes in their behavior.
  • Do not interact with animals, keep an appropriate distance from wildlife and not leave food available to them.
  • Help us keep clean areas, do not leave garbage or footprint of our visit.
  • During September and October this park has less visitation compared to other months due the rainy season, so it is recommended to visit the park at early hours and wear appropriate clothing.
  • It is important to remember this park does not have parking for vehicles and in high visitation season the only road connecting the town of Quepos with Manuel Antonio is so busy.
  • Park staff (park guards) works only within the park and its uniform has distinctive SINAC logos. Remember you can ask them for help or information.
  • In the main entrance booth there is available a form for commenting on the visit to the park. We appreciate your collaboration.
 
It is important to keep in mind that in the park is not allowed:
  • Enter to the park with food and / or beverages of any kind, under the conditions and exceptions established by the Park Administration.
  • Feed the wild animals.
  • Enter with pets of any kind.
  • Causing damage to infrastructure, vegetation, animals and other resources in the area.
  • Remove firewood or make fires.
  • Carry arms.
  • Causing scandals, missing the moral or consuming alcohol, smoking or drugs.
  • Install or paste propaganda of any kind.
  • You cannot fish or hunt.
  • It is not allowed to enter / use umbrellas, balls, tents or hammocks.
