How to get there: For visiting the Biological stations of this national park is necessary to coordinate the entire visit to Santa Rosa National Park. All access roads are dirt and hard to get, so you must coordinate the visit. This national park has mainly a visitation from researchers and students.
Carara National Park

SAN PEDRILLO SECTOR: From San José, take the Inter-american Highway towards Piedras Blancas until La Chacarita gas station, and then turn to the right and rive until Rincón and then take the right to Drake Bay or you can take the exit to Sierpe and then take a boat to Drake Bay. e route is approximately 245 miles (395 km).
LOS PATOS SECTOR: From San José, take the Inter-american Highway towards Piedras Blancas until La Chacarita gas station, and then turn to the right until La Palma, there continues to LOS PATOS Station, you must travel using a 4x4 vehicle and only in the dry season because you must cross the Rincón river several times. During rainy season you can get there only by walking from Guadalupe beside the river or doing it at afternoon. e route is approximately 245 miles (395 km).

Barbilla National Park

How to get there: From San Jose, take Route 32 to Limon, passing through the Zurquí tunnel and the mountains of Braulio Carrillo National Park. Take the turnoff to Siquirres. The entrance is approximately 2 miles (3 km) from the city of Siquirres. After leaving the highway, continue on gravel road during approximately 10 miles (17 km) to Brisas de Pacuarito.
Cahuita National Park

How to get there: From San Jose, take Route 32 to Limon, passing through the Zurquí tunnel. When you get to Puerto Limon, before entering the city, at a gas station, turn right towards the community of Cahuita, reaching Playa Blanca area, leaving the community of Cahuita to the south about 3 miles (5km) is the entrance to Puerto Vargas Sector.
Rincón de la Vieja National Park

How to get there: LAS PAILAS SECTOR: From San Jose, drive to northside towards Puntarenas and then follow the Inter-American highway towards Liberia. Once in Liberia, continue 3 miles (5 km) north side on the North Inter-americana highway, there is the entrance to Curubandé and PNRV, drive about 9 miles (15 km) to the northeast, along a paved road through the village of Curubandé, you will reach a metal gate, from this gate continue for 6 miles (10 km) on a gravel road until reach the Las Pailas Sector.
SECTOR SANTA MARÍA SECTOR: From San Jose take the Inter-american Highway towards Liberia. Take the path that starts at Barrio La Victoria, then take the road leading to the village of Colonia Blanca, then turn to the left, about 15 miles (25 km).
Santa Rosa National Park

How to get there: From San Jose, take the Inter-American Highway to Liberia and continue for about 21 miles (35 km) to the main entrance to the National Park. From that point 4 miles (7 km) to reach the Historical Museum La Casona (where you will find the registration office and information). Playa Naranjo place is 7 miles (12 km) from the Museo La Casona. Sector Murcielago is 27 miles (45 km) from Liberia, then continue to the Community of Cuajiniquil 6 miles (10 km) and then over gravel road 5 miles (9 km) more to the entrance to the Sector.
Volcán Tenorio National Park

How to get there: In vehicle. I take the General Cañas Highway towards Puntarenas. Continue on North Inter-American highway to Cañas. About 6 miles (10 km) after Cañas turn right towards Bijagua. When you are in the community of Bijagua, 5 miles (9 km) east deviate in front of the sawmill
You can also use from San Jose Route 27 to Caldera, which can take about 3.5 hours driving. From Oduber Airport in Liberia follow the road to Liberia, arriving at the intersection of Liberia continue to Bagaces / Cañas. About 6 miles (10 km) before Cañas, turn left towards Bijagua. When you are in the community of Bijagua, deviate in front of the sawmill and drive 5 miles (9 km) east.
Also, from Liberia you can take about 1.5 hours driving. Another alternative route is to take the Inter-american Highway from San Jose to Ciudad Quesada (San Carlos) and lead to Upala. In Upala turn left towards Bijagua and continue during 30 miles (48 km), deviate in front of the sawmill and drive 5 miles (9 km) east.
Another route is coming to San Rafael de Guatuso and continuing through community Katira of Guatuso, continuing to the community of Rio Celeste and then Pilon community where the park administration and park entry are located.
Palo Verde National Park

How to get there: By land, from San Jose, take the North Inter-American Highway to Bagaces, turn left onto a gravel road and continue south about 12 miles (20 km) to the park entrance. Entry is located 6 miles (10 km) from the administrative center (located in the Palo Verde Hacienda Vieja). You can also take Route 27 to Caldera - Puntarenas and then follow the North Inter-american Highway to Bagaces.
You can enter by waterway by the Tempisque River in the town of Puerto Humo, where you can tour the river in taxi boat until the Puerto Chamorro Spring about 1 mile (1,6 km) from the administrative area.
From Oduber Quiros International Airport, drive south on the north Inter-american for about 13 miles (22 Km) from Liberia to Bagaces. Then turn right onto gravel road and continue south about 12 miles (20 km) to the entrance of the Palo Verde National Park. By Bus: Take the San Jose - Liberia route (which takes about 4 hours), making the stop at Bagaces Pulmitan Liberia Ph. Number 2222 1650). From there, take a taxi to the Palo Verde National Park, it can last about 45 minutes
By Air: Available flights every day from Juan Santamaria International Airport to the Daniel Oduber International Airport with Sansa airline and / or Nature Air. In Liberia, you can take a bus and / or taxi to the Palo Verde National Park, which takes about one hour and twenty minutes.

How to get there: Take the Pan American (San José - Cartago) road passing through the Cerro de la Muerte, up to San Isidro del General, after a total of 95 miles (153 km). How to get there: From San Jose, drive north toward Guanacaste road to the junction of Limonal. Turn left at Tres Hermanas Restaurant, follow to La Amistad bridge and then follow the road to the junction in Belén of Carrillo. There, turn left and follow the road until you get to Huacas. Once in Huacas, go straight to Las Baulas National Marine Park for about 5 miles (9 km), through Matapalo, until you reach your destination.
Barra Honda National Park

How to get there: From San Jose, drive north toward Guanacaste road to the junction of Limonal. Turn left at Tres Hermanas Restaurant, follow to La Amistad bridge and then to Nicoya. After crossing the bridge, drive about 7 miles (12 km) towards Nicoya, then turn right towards the towns of Barra Honda and Nacaome, follow the signs to the park entrance.

How to get there: Cráteres Sector: From San Jose, take the Florencio del Castillo highway and follow the signs to Irazu Volcano route 2016, the distance is 20 miles (33 km) north of the city of Cartago.
Prusia Sector: From San Jose, take the Florencio del Castillo highway and follow the signs to Irazu Volcano Route 219. From Catholic Church of Potrero Cerrado go 1 mile approx. (2 km) on the road to Irazu Volcano, then turn left and go 2 miles (4 km).
